Lorraine, your adenium is a grafted plant. The branches below the graft have been left on and therefore giving you the pink flower from the rootstock or mother plant. The grafted section is the red or burgundy flowers.

You can:
1. Leave it as it is and enjoy both the pink and red blooms, or

2. Remove all the branches below the graft and have the red colored blooms only. Eventually your plant would fill in above the graft and you would have a full plant that only produces the red colored flowers. This would be my choice but it is simply a matter of what you like.

I believe removing the branches below the graft will allow the grafted portion of the plant to become stronger and not allow the mother plant to take over. Good luck in your decision.

1. When you mention branches below the graft, are you referring to the two lowest branches near the bottom?

2. Where is the graft? I want the flowers to be red. If I cut the two bottom branches, will it grow new branches there. I want the flowers branched out and full rather just growing tall. Please explain the last sentence a little clearer. Still learning.

Sorry for the late response I was out of town for a bit. It is really hard to see from the photo. However, I've made a red square around the area which appears to be the graft. The bottom three branches are below the graft and can be removed.

Thanks I will cut the three you outlined. Hopefully it will grow out. I want a full plant rather a tall thin one.
