Add twice as much lighting overhead, then paint the cabinets and walls some light color that will go with the pencil tile backsplash. If you can add some photos (using the flash) of the backsplash, you might get some color suggestions. For a much different look, paint the inside of the cabinets a bright color and put the doors back on.

The picture is not very clear but first off I would change the kitchen top and have it done in White quartz. In addition I would also close off the shelves in cupboards as he room looks a bit cluttered.

Lighting is also key. A cheap option is adhesive battery powered under Cordoba lights to stick under the shelves and above the oven.

You don't say what material the flooring is, but my experience has been that lightening the floor can make a very large contribution to lightening up a room. If possible, consider putting inexpensive vinyl tiles in a light colour on top of what you already have. Easy peasy DIY. Then when you remodel you can rethink the floor.

That is a very dark kitchen. Looks like you already have a kitchen backsplash to match the countertops, so I recommend you use the rustoleum cabinet restoration kit to repaint your cabinets a much lighter color like white. I'm not sure of what you have on the floors, but that needs to be changed to a lighter tile color also. Unfortunately, you'll have to put some money and work into lighting this kitchen. It will be a partial remodel either way if not a full remodel.
