Vertical blind replacement ideas please

I have found these blinds to be very functional but I am told they really date my place. With what do I replace these blinds on these huge windows? I love to look out through the blinds but don't want them completely open as if I'm living in a fish bowl. I'm afraid sheers will be too opaque so I can't see out. There is a walkway outside my window so people can easily look in. Can't afford custom plantation shutters for all of these windows.

annie, on another post I suggested that you just look at replacing the vertical slats on your current hardware to up date look. They make some very fashionable verticals now. I recommend that you checkout these are fabric in a soft sage green called Everglade

Verticals are not out of "fashion" they just need to be updated with a more modern texture and color.

yeah, the problem is that there are so many and so large, there's no way to do it that won't be expensive. I'm not sure I'd rush to replace them...

I know they've been there for 15 yrs I'm not in a rush because they still look good but are dated.

We've got some we're keeping for the same reason (although they are on a couple of isolated -- but tall! -- windows). You could try something like cellular blinds, which can be made to pull down from the top, if you want to see out when standing, or can even be opaque for part of their length and translucent for the other, so you can control light levels. Nothing has quite the see-throughness of ventian blinds, though, and I can't imagine doing this many horizontals! Maybe you could do sheers with curtains at the ends, and then just open them at times of day when you want to see out? (I dunno, I seem to like the cellulars for just about everything these days.)

Thanks, acm. I do like the idea of peeking out so maybe I should do horizontals for each window, but they would be very heavy. Cellulars would be light and pretty but can't see through then. Maybe very sheer sheers.
