Bosch Benchmark side swing ovens?

Hi I just ordered the Bosch Benchmark oven opening from the top. I want to switch to the right side swing but the refrigerator is adjacent to the right. I don't want the oven door to hit the fridge. Can anyone who has the side swing tell me how far it opens?

It opens around 150-160 degrees (almost all the way). It is not a free swinging door however. If you open it to 90 degrees, the door will stay put (unless you fling it with force…which would be pretty dopey). It as a hinge designed for that purpose

I love the idea of the swing door but not sure I can justify the additional expense. Sigh.

I am planning to buy this Bosch oven for my new kitchen remodel. Would love to hear from anyone who has had experience using one - positive or negative.

I would love these side swing ovens as well! They look great, why aren't they all made side swing? Makes sense from an ADA compliant standpoint.

I really liked the sideswing Bosch as well as I;m 5'1", but my appliance salesperson said he feels Bosch has had more repairs in recent years and encouraged me to look at Thermador (American sister brand) and others. Anyone have real world experience on reliability of Bosch??

Thats a strange recommendation to make. My guess is that he makes more on thermador and is pushing you that way. Realistically most of the units are related or completely identical between thermador and bosch depending on product. They aren't sister brands…they are derivative products out of the same factories. Reliabiltiy has been very good with few issues.

Joe, are you saying that Bosch and Thermador are on different assembly lines in one plant? The ovens don't look very alike inside, and it seems Bosch is quick to get on trends, whereas Thermador makes design changes quite slowly. I thought the two brands functioned fairly independently of each other. Thanks for any insights on this issue.

That is definitely the case. The Bosch and Thermador ovens are different cavity molds (hence bosch being 4.6CF and thermador being 4.7) and variations on the same basic convection system. They function independently in the same way that Honda and Acura do. They have different marketing focuses and design language but pull from the same parts bins for efficiency reasons. The vast majority of bosch/thermador cooking products come out of the New Bern factory. There may be a feature reason to go with thermador but I wouldn't classify one as significantly more or less reliable than the other.

    Thanks very much, Joe.

What is the depth of the handle on the side-swing door?

I would like to install this where the door opens to the left against a wall, and am worried the handle will hit the wall and prevent 90degree opening.

    thanks vm.

agk2003, now that you have had some time with your Bosch Benchmark side swing oven, do you have any feedback?

Joe Henderson - I'm going to install these ovens towards the end of a cabinet run, but with a slim cabinet between oven and perpendicular wall so I can open the door more than 90 degrees (I don't want to worry about burning my arm on the open door).

Any suggestion on how far from the perpendicular wall to get a comfortable swing range? Here's my proposed arrangement:

We have ordered right hinge side swing Bosch double oven. Glass in doors rattle when opening and closing. They have sent 4 different ones. They all rattle. Ones in display don't. Dealers say never had problem before. Anyone else have this issue?

I have a single side swing Bosch - no problem.

I also have a single side swing with no issues at all - love it.

I just noticed today that my Bosch single side swing oven door rattles as well. I was cleaning the inside glass when I heard it. I have been using it for about 7 months now.

I'd like to install this Bosch right-hinge oven next to our refrigerator and our contractor is worried because in their instructions, it suggests a 10" clearance which I don't have. We have about 4" right now. Can anyone tell me - when this door is open to the fullest extent, does it open a full 180 degrees or something less than that? It seems like 4" should be more than enough but haven't heard from Bosch yet to know what they are recommending about 10" specifically.

the door does open a full 180 degrees. Are you sure it's because of the door opening that the 10" clearance is suggested? could it be the heat?

Karen - no, I think it might mean 10” before perhaps a wall so it can open a more than 90 degrees? thats what I don’t understand. If you have your door at a 90 degree angle, will your racks slide in and out or does the door need more than that to get the racks out And avoid burning your arm in the process?

The racks will slide out @90 degrees. Sometimes I only open my oven 90.

for those of you that have this Bosch side swing oven, I was wondering if the timer on the oven is loud and beeps multiple times? (Ie could you hear it from the next room?). Also, does it pre heat quickly? Really thinking of going for the double left swing but looking for feedback! Thanks!

The timer beeps multiple times but it is not loud. If I’m listening for it I hear it in the next room. My DH does not- but he doesn’t hear certain pitches.

Can you switch the swing side from left to right or does it come fixed?

It is fixed. You purchase either a right swing or a left swing.
