Need to replace this old front door - looking for ideas for something that will improve the curb appeal of this old house.

can you take pic of the front of the home from the street? it's hard to get a good look at the facade from these pics....but from what i can see, the door look dwarfed by giant windows....

The front door opens into an enclosed sunroom (the siding). Hope this helps.

I think you need more glass.

Agree with grover on the door. Not sure what your budget is. Minimally, I'd paint the siding white, add grids to the sun room windows to match the main one and paint out the sunroom's roof line trim. If the door is original to the home, put it back.

We don't have much of a budget but I appreciate the advice.

If your budget it's tight, paint is not a big ticket. It looks like the triangle above the big window and the door are the same color. Paint them both a fresh but not-too-bold color, perhaps a green or blue--whatever you like.

Thanks - I have enough for a new door and paint but not much more. I just don't know what door would work best in this spot.

Either get the same style you have now (it can be purchased in wood grain fiberglass check Therma Tru) or go with groveraxle's suggestion it will look great with your home's style

The door you have is wonderful. It looks a bit solid for a sunroom entrance, but it still has a good amount of glass. Painting it a lighter cheerier color might be all it needs. If I were to make improvements on a limited budget, I'd keep the door, paint, and lower the windows to match the door height. A better door than that one would be pretty expensive.

Torn between one and three on Grover's images, but think I like three because of contrast with brick. Let us know what you choose please! :)

Cute house btw! A little landscaping would really set it off! :)

The door is cute, maybe a flower box under the window might be what you are looking for, something that hangs over the side of the box and then some flowers that aren't to tall.

i think i might want to paint the siding slightly darker to reduce the contrast between brick and siding, and paint the peak of the porch in the same color. i might then consider adding a bit more of a trim detail around the door to visually increase it's scale, and paint it white, so that just the door has a pop of color. as for a new door, i do like the suggestion above. when in the budget, i'd love to see you create a larger entry area/stairs/porch at the front door, to be in better proportion with the home.

I agree with the window box idea - thank you so much for that comment. Also I also like the third picture that Grover provided - the colour is great too. I am in Canada so will have to try to find that style here. Appreciate the input of everybody.

Down the road we plan to change out the front walkway which is really ugly. The concrete steps could be enlarged at that time. Right now nobody uses the front entrance - they use the side door as the home is on a corner lot and that is where the driveway is placed. Also the siding was originally white - but it was too stark against the red brick so we painted it taupe. The door and the peak are a charcoal grey.
