Weevil, a type of beetle.

The indoor locations you mention are typical of where a person might go directly from the outdoors; I find these in my house and they most likely come in on my clothing from outside. They might even end up in a person's hair prior to falling off.

Edge-notched foliage is an indicator of their presence in the yard.

Thanks, Larry_Gene! I think I've further identified it as a Strawberry Root Weevil - Otiorhynchus ovatus. They aren't attacking ANY of my house plants, just annoying ME! I got out my pest pistol and dusted them with diatomaceous earth, and then laid down some in the plant pots in the area where I think they could be reproducing. I also laid some around the counter at the back where they seem to crawl at night. I might look into parasitic nematodes if I see the population increase, or if I notice damaged plants. Apparently, the larvae feed on the roots of some plants, but it sounds like mostly food-related plants. I've not noticed any leaf damage or wilting, etc., on any of my house plants. Sounds like the natural predators of the adults are OTHER beetles, which I don't want in my house, EITHER!

Nematodes can be a weevil control if applied at the right time and temperature range. May take more than one year to be effective. Adults feed on foliage of many other plants besides strawberry.
