If you don't need covering for privacy leave them alone.

If you need some cover, hang one long drapery rod or use pipe and hang panels from it. When not covering the window let them hang in between.

thank you Vicki. I don't necessarily need them for privacy, however the room is pretty bare right now and I thought it would be a good way to add texture and color.

I would suggest side panels. Find a fabric you like that pulls all the design elements in your space together, texture, colors, pattern, and have some single width panels made. Be sure to hang them as high as possible and make sure they touch the floor, there is nothing worse than short curtains! I typically like a very informal pleat to keep the feel relaxed and soft. Here is a photo of a side panel we used, note the rod is mounted as high as possible to really bring your eye up and make the ceilings feel taller. Window treatments are a really great way to add warmth and they also absorb sounds and pull a space together. Good luck with your project!
