Sorry to say the roots will escape through the holes in the container. The only way to contain the plant is to put it in a 5 gallon or larger pot on top of the soil and place the pot on plastic so the roots can't touch the soil.

A wider one, the roots don't go down that deep in the ground. But the plant will not be happy after two years in the same pot with the same soil. I haven't tried moving the roots to another pot with fresh soil after two years, but the roots will not resprout and flower after two years, in my experience.

I am saddened to hear this. I have maypop in the ground, and now I am pulling all the time. Too late the container idea came to me. For may pop, but I was thinking of this for kiwi and groundnut too. My thinking was that people do it for bamboo, which is also aggressive, so why not for really aggressive vines? I am all for as much food in as little space as possible, but it sounds like container-ing won't work?

To my knowledge this has never happened.. but yes you can so it no problem sounds like seeds falling and regrowing plants...?
