I grow almost all my gingers in pots due to very poor soil And the dormant period these types go domant no mattter what the temp. Pots allows me to move them to an out of the way place and let them get much drier.

You will have to protect them from freeze so indoors would be best. But you will have a bare pot all winter lol. There are evergreen types but most get very large .Given there are so many varieties there must be some that would make good houseplants?? gary

I have had some luck growing curcumas in pots and letting them go dormant in the fall and keeping them semi-dry, but above freezing in the winter. They don't reach full potential, by far, but did bloom every year. Well worth a try! Bob (SW Indiana)
