You will want to do the cedar shake in a solid color stain. I would keep it in the blue family, as it compliments the brick well, it just needs to have more body to it & update the light blue. I would suggest Sherwin Williams solid stain. It transformed our own cedar shake house from blah to bomb. As for shutters, look at SW Sealskin. It is a softer black that is GORGEOUS!!! Do your trim in Pure White - it's a soft white, not glaring white. Now you need a door color. I'm seeing either black, or yellow thinking of a complimentary color. I don't have a particular yellow off the top of my head, but it needs to have some saturation to it for the blue cedar shake. There are usually color consultants at SW stores to guide.

On the color visualizer it was Classic French Gray SW0077, however, I would also look at Earl Gray SW7660 and Stamped Concrete SW7655 to see various undertones in each. I'd also suggest painting, (two coats with dry time in between), sample boards and looking at them against the brick in a sunny spot as well as a shaded spot to ensure you like the color in all areas.

I would go with a darker color pulled from the stone....not blue! Your home is gorgeous! I would try a deep tan or perhaps olive green.

I would remove the shutters and paint the house white and do the front door in your favorite color

I, too, would paint the entire house the same color. White or a soft gray maybe, with a classic black-green door. If you love the idea of shutters, replace them with pairs that, when closed, would actually cover the windows. Can you enlarge that pretty little swath of garden and add some color? I'm not sure the three vertical plants are adding to the overall look. And can you replace the very large shrub to the far right with something smaller? It's a great looking house, and it looks beautifully cared for.

I also think you should paint the entire house one color, a beautiful dark gray would be striking. Good luck!

Your house is beautiful. As for color choice it can depend on where you live, as color "styles" vary regionally and even if you love the color, the wrong choice make your home stand like a sore thumb. They color way you choose should be used in your area. It doesn't have to be the same as as everyone else's or in some cases even used at all. The design feature everyone is missing here is the patina copper hood above your second story window. Your color choice should make that pop. Also use a slightly lighter shade below the from porch over hang and darker on the second floor. Keep the shutters black they are great. Ultimately the front door color choice will depend on the color you choose but don't be afraid to do it a color that will draw your eye ( red, yellow, turquoise...) this will make your home welcoming. Do you really want to go up to a home with a black door? I like the 1st & 4th color ways in the photos above. Good luck,

When we painted our brick and wood home we chose our colors from the bricks themselves. One for the siding and one for the trim. Your bricks have an amazing color range or pallet and you might find just what you need by taking a closer look at them.

I agree with llswink. If a color from the brick is used the house will look more unified. It looks like 2 different structures now. I'd also tone down the color of the shutters on the brick area. Your eye is drawn right to those shutters, not to the house/front door.

as a realtor I'd say stay away from blue, the grays or a muted sage would look better

We think Arizona tan from the mitten siding color chart would look great. We did our cedar siding this color with dark steel grey shutters and we had so many compliments that we decided to keep the color when we added an addition and switched to vinyl for the whole home.

I'm another one who likes that last photo best, going for the gray range. I'd just go a little darker, but not as dark as SW's Sealskin.

In between is (yes, really :) SW 7047 Porpoise! I think your black shutters would still show beautifully without going too light for a background color.

I love the gray, or a similar gray, that Fox Brothers posted. It gives your house an updated look. Baby blue looks dated.

I agree with others that painting the brick to match the color of the siding is the way to go, whether you choose to stay with the blue (which I happen to like, it's unique but still inviting) or go with a new color like the gray mentioned. I'm not sure where you're located but painted brick is very popular in the south.

Personally, I like that the brick breaks everything up, & the combination of textures with the brick & cedar shake. So I would vote no for painting the brick.

Choose from the green toned colors. If you want to stay with the blues, shift to the green blue hues. You will have a greater contrast with your brick. Adjust the color of your black shutters only if necessary depending on what color you choose. They provide a lovely dramatic contrast.

Yes, it's a beautiful home-- but ditch the blue. It's dated and passé. Faux shutters actually detract from all that's going on with the design features of the house. Real white shutters would be cool, but not necessary. The 2nd floor copper roofing should be highlighted and compliment whatever color you choose (select one accent from the bricks). Get rid of the big bush on the right immediately. Hides the window. And make a nice flower garden in front with color like someone suggested. There are too many facades going on right now so the style is kind of chopped up. And a great front door color would be awesome - be brave on that one!

I don't think that "outdated" has anything to do with the blue color; your great brick just doesn't work with blue! Some warm color, maybe with a bit of gray in it for siding.
