Put it in the ground, perhaps under a hardware cloth cage. Plant it a foot from the intended support. Never let it dry out or allow standing water to gather. Very slow, at first, but worth the wait. Mine got no sun, being on the N. side of a solid rough wood fence, so it was abysmally slow, but it is magnificent and has grown up to reach Sun. Bog turtle - Thank you for your advice on my Moonlight! It has been in the ground since July and has grown well. I am now wondering if I need to provide it any winter cover. It is still only a foot high but has branched and seems to like the spot. It is near the house in a southern facing bed, but our winters have been hideous in Michigan recently. Any thoughts? I also just went over to your blog and love it! So many animals and lovely natives. Thanks for sharing.
