Don't know what that is all about, but do you (or does anyone else) think you should take off the affected leaves? Are they turning mushy? They don't look like it. You mention heat,,,,maybe have a fan blowing on your violets??? From a distance of course, just to have gentle air movement? So sorry this is happening! Rosie

Thanks for responding Rosie. Well they are firm and not mushy and only the one plant is showing this rust on the leaf.

No I did not consider removing the leaves because it did not look like it would cause a problem.

Also when I got it it only had this row of leaves plus the two younger set.so I was afraid to leave it too bear. Velleta

Velleta I have another thought.....There was a thread on the AV forum about "rust". Have you tried gently "brushing" or washing it off with mild soap? Is it removable? If it is, it just may be (geeze I am trying to remember what orange crust meant) fertilizer salts? And if this is true,,, then you will have to "rinse" out the soil.

Do you water from the top or from the bottom? Do you have drainage in the pot? Could your mix be a little "heavy"? Just guessing here. Let me know. Maybe I can find that thread or with any luck someone else will jump in and help! Rosie

Rosie, it's not removable I tried wiping it off with a wet cotton ball and it stayed put.

I know it's not overfertilizing because the top of the soil does not have any orange crystal. I water from above under the leaves and yes my pots have lots of drainage holes.

I even place packaging peanuts at the bottom before adding the soil.also my mix is fine I use 70% perlite 15% miracle grow potting mix and 15 % coconut coir. And they do fine. As I said only this plant is showing the rusty brown leaves.

Could it be heat or sun damage?

hmmmm, fortyseven may have a point. Try moving it back from what ever light it is getting and in a few weeks see what happens! And don't forget to run a small fan maybe thru the day.

AND this is what I always do. Your plant looks like it can spare a couple leaves so I would start them just in case "bad happens"! At least you will have backup! Wish I had a nickel for every time I didn't take my own advice! Let us know! Rosie
