Not sure what is happening. Have you checked the roots? What kind of water are you using? How often do you change the water?

Troy, all good questions. I have several of these plants, they are pretty resilient. I can't say how coolness effects them, other than to state that I have one outside at the moment in a shaded location that gets limited dappled light. Last night was 48 and my plant has been experience this type cool off and on all summer to no ill effect (that I am aware of). As for putting into a bigger pot, only way to find out is to remove it from its current pot and check the roots. If the pot is full of roots then yes. Check the water for cleanliness. Make sure there is no rot.

Over time the lower leaves will brown and drop off, in these instances the top will be nice and healthy. I think my first step would be to remove the plant from the pot and see what is going on in there. Then decide where to go next. The brown leaves will not get better as far as I know. The trick is to stop more from browning (age related lower leaves excluded) One last comment: I have a variegated one that I have found only wants distilled water. A steady diet of tap water causes the margins of the leaves to brown. Hope this helps.

I've re-potted the plant (actually another started showing the yellow leaves also so did that one also), removing the plant from the small pot it had took some effort as it was root bound. The roots weren't exactly white but more of an orange-ish colour so I hope it can repair itself with a larger pot with more room to spread along with a new potting mix.

That looks like it was in soil? were you growing it in water or soil? I have a small plant I got recently that was in a no draining pot it had some kind of fibrous brown "soil" in the pot covered with stone mulch. I had assumed it was just stones and water and treated it as such. One stalk started to yellow so I removed it and found the medium. I don't know if this is some kind of new technique or it it was supposed to be in a draining pot. I am familiar with growing them in water where stones are used to anchor the plant and growing them in dirt (not that I have any in dirt at the moment). I'm still researching this new concept.

Are you going to plant it in dirt and treat as a potted plant? Or use as a hydro plant?

I thought it was only in rocks but the rocks were only on the top. The pots I have them in drain and I've brought both back in to hopefully easy any shock they may have from the whole process. I've used a potting mix so they're in soil but have put rocks on top to help with watering.

I find that the stone mulch makes it more difficult to check the moisture of the soil, but it does look nice. Good luck with your plant and don't hesitate to Ask questions!

Do you keep them in full sun?

I will like to know that too or they prefer non direct sunlight. My bamboo lives are turning yellow, ( look just like Troy) why? I have black small stones in there and like one in 2 weeks I add about 1 inch of water. What I am doing it wrong?

I use to have a beautiful good luck bamboo and it was gorgeous for about 7 years and in 3 days just died...
