That's good to know - I have been using Streptocarpella in a summer window box on the north side of my house for a few years now, and they do very well there. It is interesting to now know that they could also be planted just about anywhere else around the house. Did you acclimate your plant gradually to the full sun location?

Had originally tried it in one of my terrs but, once it rooted, it quickly became obvious that it was not a good candidate -- got far too big too fast. So tore it out, chopped it up, gave away many cuttings and potted up the remainder. Didn't do much for a while but can chalk that up to both it readjusting to the abuse and radical change of circumstances. During that period, flowering was infrequent at best. (Didn't help that it also had to contend with our winter sun which is both weak and parsimonious in its frequency of appearances.) So this spring, just for kicks, decided to try it out on my balcony -- bringing it back in during chilly times. Seeing as it didn't seem to mind, I decided to leave it out and observe its reaction to the heat of summer with full sun. Thus far, seems to be quite happy. Even have a hummer that has been stopping by once or twice a day to visit the flowers.

Just received my first Streptocarpella! I was thinking of eventually potting it in a hanging basket since it seems it will branch alot. I have a great spot for it in front of an unobstructed east window on a plant pole for the winter. Should do well to my way of thinking! Can't wait to see blossoms! I plan to care for it like a violet. Rosie

The saxorum still looks pretty much the same as it did in my OP. Plant is a bit fuller and is still covered with blooms. I should probably clip off all the spent bloom stalks ... but there are sooooooo many of them. Brought inside a couple weeks ago as temps dropped. Fully expect blooming to dwindle down to nothing as the days continue to become shorter and consistently greyer.

I haven't had mine that long, so it is still adjusting to "life at Rosie's"!!!!! No leaf drop, (whew), no flowers. BUT I know it is readjusting so I can wait. I have never seen a white one and I am fortunate to have received a white one.

Do you think the cuttings of the white one (when we get to that point) will root better in water or in porous soil like a violet leaf? I have only had a blue one before (maybe about 20 years ago, forgot about that till I got this one!!!) and I don't know if there is a difference between the two. I know that the blue ones could grow with happy abandon and I could not keep up with pruning! And cuttings everywhere!!!! And they rooted in water like crazy!! Just wondering if the white was the same.

I think this spring if I can find a blue start, I would like to try that again also. Then I would have a white AND a blue! Do they come in pink? lol Rosie

I've never rooted them in water, Rosie, but they root easily in soil. It doesn't take long.

There is a pink. Check out Google images. I really like it.

Never seen the other colors. Got mine as a "surprise" in a plant trade I did with a gent in GA.

Don't recall ever trying to root these in water. Think I just did soil rooting.

Never agreed with the "blue" tag saxorum (or most other flowers) is often given -- more purple or "periwinkle" in color, IMO.

Lovely. I might have to try this one again, there is a large one at my university I have permission to take cuttings from. I have tried twice now, first time I was able to root the cuttings and keep them growing, then it died on me once the weather got warm. I don't have great AC, but have lots of western windows. Tried again (during warmer months) to root it in perlite and it rotted on me. Any suggestions?
