This is my first time posting but have been following gardenweb since a long time. I am also in VA. Some of my jasmine buds too r drying and size is small too. So I guess weather could be the real reason.

Water will ruin a jasmine flower. When I had my Grand Duke, I put it on the patio and it received morning sun til about 12 30 in the afternoon, then shade. It seemed to appreciate the afternoon shade. It was also under a roof, so when it rained it didn't necesarily get wet. That way I controlled the watering. Try it if you can, instead of having it out open to the weather as far as watering and giving it a little afternoon shade. You have nothing to loose anyway.

Shravani, I thought weather could be the cause but my neighbor has same plants but she did not have same problem. Are all your jasmines having the problem or any specific varieties? I am in Loudoun County, VA, where in VA are you?

Butterfly4u, My backyard is south facing and its sunny morning till evening. I moved some plants to east side near my garage to see, if they do any better with just morning sun.

I used to have a jasmine with wide petals like maid of Orleans but multi petal, sadly it died off. In India we called it "Gundumalli". Any idea what this one is and where can I get one from. I would be happy if I can find one to replace my lost one.

jasmine humile is indoors and cannot be left outside in our zone. Its an easy maintain plant which blooms in winter if given place near sunny window.

I had tough time maintaining parijat indoors, tried twice. Due to dry air indoors with low humidity the plant did not survive. I gave up on growing that one..

Ezhil, Generally I trim the plant in fall to give any cuttings to folks locally. Send me your email if I cut any during fall I can let you know then

Do you find that your Jasmine of any kind, especially the 'Grand Duke' has a tough time making it through winter months...Like loosing leaves, and sometime looking almost dead?

I do face the same issue with the grand duke both tuscany and supreme. I have noticed though that if given enough light and warmer temps (for me near my dining area) it does better. Both hated the basement. Maid of orleans does fare a little better than any other variety during our Virginia winters. Other varieties drop leaves but do seem a little better than granduke dukes.

Reviving this old post, but ALL of my buds are turning brown, brittle. Even when they are tiny. Plant looks very healthy. Very frustrating..

Rekha, my grand duke spent 3 months in a shed with two windows on south side, no water. it lost all of its leaves. I put it in the garden watered it and let nature take its course, it came back with a fury, put on 10inches of growth all around and was perfect. then we got the two days of rain and my flowers turned brown too. keep it out of direct rain if possible. let it dry out

hi Rekha, how old are the plants? I have had them in the sun in Houston. They will bloom.

Plants are about 5 years old. I get very few blooms. HundredsHundreds buds, but. Most buds are completely ruined.

Is there water logging? That sometimes has this issue.

I dont see water logging, they are in planters ...but it does rain a lot here. I am thinking of reporting them next spring in a very fast draining mix to see if it helps.

Very nice discussion. My jasmine was doing so well till last week. Now suddenly the buds are drying up. Any help is appreciated.

If you eliminate water issues, it could be an insect/mite problem. This spring I did a soil drench with insecticide on my potted jasmine and cut everything back a few times and did not let it bloom. got lots of flowers this summer after almost 4-5 years.

What kind of insecticide did you use. My jasmine plant has full of buds, but they are tiny n brittle. How to use the insecticide? Just spray on the plant or spraying on the soil? Please guide. I am also in Houston area. Thanks.
