I love your room! I would keep furniture.do some de-cluttering and maybe add more books to shelves, fewer objects. The very large spray of flowers might go. Roman shades in tones picking up lamps by windows. Hard to see but maybe golds, orange, red?

Your furniture layout is nice as is. I would go with the sofa and two chairs for flexibility. Maybe a lighter cream colored sofa. You do need to edit the space. I would take it one piece at a time, remove everything and put back a little less. You could post one piece at a time and have Houzzers help you.

Your sofa could be placed further from the fireplace as it is almost wholly on the rug. I suggest 1/3 books, 1/3 collections & 1/3 empty space in the bookcases. The books should be some stacked, some leaning against each other & some placed between book ends & space them mixed randomly among the shelves. It is a timely process: Do the books first. Then add collections grouped together in between the books here & there & leave empty space where your eye dictates.

Be sure to measure your floor area prior to going shopping for a new sofa or for sure for a sectional. For the south facing windows you may want to go with a heavier fabric or lined since the sun is strong on the south. Check Ikea for reasonably priced drapes as they sell by the pairs not by the panel as most stores do, If not sure what color to go with, go with white, off white or wheat color. Install them close to the ceiling down to the floor. Do not go with silk as silk when exposed to sun disintegrates quickly. Good luck & be sure to have fun with the process.
