Help!!!

Do you have any rivers, creeks, bogs, waterways, lagoons, lakes nearby? Look for reeds, hollow reeds. They come in many sizes, which is good since they will attract different pollinators, not just mason bees.

Are there any 99cent stores in your area, the ones here in S. Calif have long bamboo poles for gardening and they can be cut up for mason bee hotels.

Or try http://crownbees.com/shop/nesting-material ...they sell what you're looking for, the nesting tubes. They don't recommend bamboo because they say you can't clean it enough (for reuse) to prevent disease and mites, but on a short term basis bamboo and reeds are the cheapest way to go. And if you find a source of reeds, they'd be easy to replace each year.

Thank you very much! I live in a island, so I have rivers and beaches everywhere. I will do that. I'll try reeds first and see how it goes. I live in stress all the time waiting for the local authorities to come and take down their home. Thank you for helping me save my tiny friends! :)

How did it go, Mariy? The kids of bees who nest in the holes in the houses (many different species) can be very picky about exactly what size hole (reed diameter) they prefer. If you are putting a bunch of tubes/reeds/holes into a box and seeing what you can capture, it is usually best to start with a variety of sizes. You can also roll your own paper tubes if you can get a wooden dowel and use some paper grocery bags.
