Help with some new arrivals? :)

Got some new babies in the mail today, a Dark Kiss and a Denver Doll. Look how cute!

The Dark Kiss needs a little tlc but it's actually pretty cute, and a nice size :)

Now, the one I need help with is the Denver Doll... I took it off someone's hands and honestly, I don't even know where to start with this little mess of leaves:

Sorry my pictures are a little on the dark side. I noticed the roots are exposed and if you pick it up it feels like the plant will just fall right off the top of the pot... I have no idea what to do about splitting crowns or which leaf is the parent leaf... any thoughts?

Hi, Is the top one your EBay find?! Lovely! As for the girl-leaf plant, suggest you allow it to adjust to your home environment for a few days or week or two. You might want to make sure there is enough soil in the pot to try to stabilize it. Let it grow out a little more and maybe in your environment it will start to straighten out a little. That will make it easier to separate the crowns. The girl leaf plants grow very slowly, they are dwarfs. I don't know how much handling they can take. I have one that looks like yours, I am not sure how it got that way, because when it bloomed, it was fine, just a single crown. I am letting it stretch out a little before separating the crowns. I don't know if these plants are also trailers. If they are, then I won't try to separate it. Your pix are fine, by the way. At least, on my monitor. Joanne

Very nice! Follow Joanne's advice. A good rule is,,,,,whenever you get something new, give a little time to acclimate to you and your envoirnment.

I love girl leaves. Course I have yet to meet a violet I didn't love! Good luck with your new arrivals! Rosie

Yep! Well, a different ebay find. I think I noticed that the Dark Kiss variety seems to have more white in general so I decided to search that specific type to see if they all look like that. And lo, I found this guy :) It has a great rootbase and none of the leaves got damaged in transit, although the poor baby fell out of the pot so I decided just to put it in the pot I had picked for it.

Thanks for the advice on the the girl-leaf! I was afraid the pictures were too dark to see the leaves but I'm glad to hear they're not! I actually did what you suggested on instinct lol. I put some more dirt in around the roots just so they were covered and the plant was more stable, and I'm going to just let it sit on the windowsill with the others. Since it's so tiny, it gets plenty of shade from the shady sill plus the other plants. Good to know they grow slowly. I didn't know what to expect with this one. I've never had a miniature before!

Oh also, I repotted the Trinidad II. It's root ball was much smaller than I remember (I think I miscalculated its size because of how long its leaves were) and so I repotted it in another, slightly smaller pot. It seems to be perking up, which I'm happy about :)

OMG! I just looked at this post again and realized that the little baby is growing in a Kcup! I start EVERYTHING (violets AND other cuts) in Kcups!!!! Can't believe that got past me!!!! Rosie

Your 'Denver Doll' sure looks like my 'Shiawassee Trail'. Maybe that's why it looks tangled. If it's a trailer it makes branches. I love the lighter colored girl leaves on yours & my S.T. Best wishes, Trudy
