    I'm betting they bought the base and top separately. low budget look can be had at IKEA for the base ($300) in Canada and a slab of laminate counter top from anywhere. of course if $ no object a real tulip table would do too. I have never seen an original with a squared top. It may be sacreligious to mid mod mavens.
