Those who know me pretty well also know that a little less than a year ago I was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, an insurable but treatable disease that causes weakness of the voluntary muscles by affecting the nervous system. It also makes me very susceptible to heat stress. I had yet another flare of this condition week before last, and now it's certain that I am pretty much unable to do any more outdoor gardening. However, this fall I plan to clean out the raised bed in my back yard, put in a soaker hose, treat with something to eliminate all the grass that has invaded it, and replant with perennials that need an absolute minimum of care. Needless to say, I plan to get someone to help!! From then on, I should be able to enjoy the garden just by connecting the soaker hose and turning on the faucet!
