stratifying hollyhocks

can you plant hollyhocks in the late summer (now) and have them start, then go dormant and come up next year? I know stratify and they need light to germinate, my question is what's the minimum time in the freezer? just freeze them, then thaw immediately, oir do they they need to spend some time frozen? thanks

Nik
