Some for Sunday

Richard Norris's But Wait, There's More is double later in the season and single earlier. Today there were both kinds of flowers open. Either way, it is a pretty daylily. It's tall and vigorous too.

Eyes of Faith has been a reliable performer here for many years. It is registered as late but blooms just before the lates start here.

Forestlake Laura Lee Harding is probably our best Forestlake cultivar. It is vigorous and floriferous.

Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding continues to be beautiful here. It has become my favorite edged red. It's not really toothy as some others, but it is more of a true red.

Tropical Fusion is becoming a favorite orange with red eye.

Sandra Elizabeth is blooming so we know our season is winding down.

Heavenly Yellow Lion is also a late blooming daylily.

Last Snowflake doesn't seem to like our climate much, but this one gave us a beautiful flower today.

When Bob's not growing daylilies, this is what he is growing. This is Hedychium 'Tara'. Hedychiums are members of the ginger family. This panicle of flowers is over a foot and a half tall.

Mantis, we love going to Glasshouse Works. Bob always comes home with several new plants (although most of his gingers did not come from there), and I manage to find several that I want to grow. I especially like all the varieties of coleus they carry. The first time we ever visited Glasshouse Works was back in 1977 or 78 before we were even married. Guess I am giving away my age.

We grow several Polstons--Born of Magic, Ground Control to Major Tom (new this spring), Wild Hair, Red Ragamuffin, Eye of Ra, Drops of Jupiter, Come Out and Play, Interview with a Vampire, and Raspberry Goosebumps. There are several of his on my want list too--Born to Bite, Deadliest Catch, Van Helsing, Carnivore, Tasmanian Tiger. I am just waiting to find them at a decent price. We don't grow many dips but I might make an exception on some of his green-eyed ones such as Crimson and Clover or Emerald Empress.

I see why you visit Glasshouse Works. Tropical Fusion does look interesting (in a crowded field of eyed orange and yellow flowers). Do you have any other Polston cultivars other than Lady Stephanie?

Very pretty. LSVR is my fav though. Strange how doubles bloom after singles as a rule. Another strange thing is that my spiders and uf's bloom about the time of the double. Weird! Your garden looks lovely.

I like Last Snowflake! What a bummer it is not doing as well as you would like. I like Laura Lee Harding, great color.

I like the Richard Norris But Wait one. It's even more striking to me as a double. How fortunate you can pick and choose which form to see......I saw Eyes of Faith at a daylily show and just had to have it. It was the one year I had a rust attack and it immediately began rusting as soon as it was potted. It's gone now. Too bad. It's a pretty thing......Oh, would I like to go to Glasshouse Works with you. They have a spotty reputation on mail order, but in person a body could go crazy...........Maryl

Maryl...we go to Glasshouse Works every July around the 4th and always have fun looking around and find plenty to bring home. Are you interested in any particular tropicals? Hedychiums? Some are supposed to overwinter in zone 7, I believe. I often have extras if you just want to try them.... Bob
