Backsplash design

I want something interesting that does not draw your eye immediately to the backsplash. have been looking at grey slate/stainless combinations.. Was surprised when I liked a greyslate/glass mosaic that had a little bit of honey colored glass. I also have heard suggestions to use tile vertically not horizontal. Any suggestions?
