Reverting Pygmy JM?

My 5 year old JM Pygmy was seriously afflicted with winter moth larva
eating the leaves in April/May. The new growth seems to have reverted to
leaves that probably are part of the trunk the Pygmy was grafted too.
It's now late July. Do I need to cut the new growth off or should I wait
until next spring? Other forum submissions regarding 'JM reversions'
talk about "some" varietals being more vulnerable than others. Are Pygmies more vulnerable? Thanks!!
