I have grown carrots here in fall and winter and they produce well. Carrots are a good succession crop, sow some seed now, then again in two week,s then two weeks more and so on. It's not a one-time shot, like potatoes for instance. The calendar I refer to is here: Low Desert Planting and Harvest Calendar - it shows you can plant carrot starts now but best times are Sep and Jan/Feb. I'm not sure seed will germinate in hot soil. Ok, thanks! I have the UofA planting guide for here and I know it SAYS carrot planting starts but it is good to hear that it works out ok. I'd hate to pull up and be stuck with woody, bitter carrots all because I didn't wait a few more weeks.

I've had wonderful success planting carrots starting in Sept and running all through the winter. I've never tried them earlier as my summer stuff is still always going. The only issue I've ever had with them is planting in beds that had a lot of manure added previously for growing melons and squash. They don't like manure.
