A happy white African violet.

Well, the wife and I started growing AV's a while back. Started with one , now have 8 and

were are looking for a miniature bright red and miniature dark blue to add to the collection.. Any suggestions on where to get them. Sure would like to see some pics of your red and blues. I am attaching a pic of our white beauty. It reaches about 9 inches across. Nothing fancy but we sure love the bright white. Mike & Bunny in Missouri

Hi, Short answer, Rob's Love Bite from Violet Barn. Long answer: for miniature bright reds, try looking through the LyndonLyon.com on-line store catalogue under minis. You might also want to check under semi-minis. They carry some in the Mac series and some of their own hybrids. Both George MacDonald ("Mac") and the Lyon's company is known for developing strong reds. Another hybridizer of red AVs is Kent Stork, but not sure if he has minis. Rob's of Violet Barn has red minis and specializes in minis. If the shade of red is important to you, read the descriptions carefully. Also, local stores sometimes carry Optimara red minis but more often in the late Fall, towards the Christmas season. Optimara has all kinds of reds, both standard and mini, you will find in stores usually in late Fall. Sometimes you will find them sooner.

I have had all kinds of Optimara reds, but for some reason, they seemed to lack Pizzazz. However, as part of a collection of assorted colors, that might be fine for you. I narrowed my favorites down to two from Lyon's, one from Mac, and one from Kent Stork. However, they are small standards, so I won't state the names so as not to get you off track! Joanne

Very nice! I like white violets & it is sometimes difficult to find a good one. It looks like you might have Optimara My Sensation in the background.

Well, you did it to me. LOL. I just went into Robs Violet Barn and ordered what I hope will be 3 different red African violets. I am still searching for dark blue though. Anybody got a picture of one you could share. Saw the perfect blue someplace but dang if I can remember where. LOL. Typical for me in my old age though. LOL. Mike & Bunny in Missouri

Lyon's is having a sale in August, 15% off, think you can manage to wait a couple more days? Also, try the Optimara.com Selective Gardener, they might have a dark blue.

Fancy Bloomers in NJ, Donna's own hybrids. She might possibly have a dark blue. I know she has a medium blue. But her own hybrids are not minis.

I bought Ron's "Crime Scene", which has red flowers with varigated leaves. It is growing beautifully, here I attach a picture of it, see if you like it! JM

It is a pretty flower, thanks for showing. I dislike the Ma's andRob's names for their plants. I dislike the idea of violence associated with plants.They seem to have a very juvenile sense of humor. Too bad, because they seem to be pretty good hybridizers. So for reds, I look to the Mac's series or the Lyon's and leave the Rob's and Ma's for the specialists. Just my 25 cents.

Not crazy about a lot of the names a lot of hybridizers choose for their violets but,,,,,,anyway I do like that violet!
