Should I use 6" can lights in my large kitchen with pendants over our island or 4" can lights (recess lights)?

I'm not a fan of the look of can lights so I always use the smallest diameter possible. We have them but rarely use them...the island pendants have translucent shades and provide a lot of light to the whole area. You also might look into LED cans as they do provide a much whiter, crisper light which is great for a kitchen.

it seems like there are more options for the smaller reflector bulbs these days, so I would probably go with the 4"...

I think it is easier to put the lights where they need to be with the 4 inch cans because you can put them closer together. I couldn't find a good plan with the 6 in, but changing to 4 in worked great with my layout.
