I would paint them a flat, dark grey. Almost black. Or I would keep them the same color they already are, which matches the trim. I like the color they are.

Both your ideas is what I was thinking. My DH says paint the shutters the door color and then I saw that pic too that I had saved. I also was thinking a shade lighter than the door...the rebel inside me wants to paint them Georgian green...but I doubt it would look like the pic below on my house. I love this Bill Ingram house below but I don't have shingles. I might paint the house one day. But for now I did a light mortar wash.

So you do think the trim should go lighter...our picket fence is painted SW white duck? It just seemed to transform the house with the gray trim...mmmm

I love the brick but agree the shutter color is a bit dull. Can you post a photo of the entire front façade?

I really do think it looks nice. If you change color, you'll certainly need to keep the roof color in mind too.

I think it looks terrific! Shutters and door look great. Add some colorful annuals to your flower pots and more color in your window boxes.

Any of the red brick colors for the shutter's paint color, blends it into the building.

Well, if you really don't want to see the shutters, just remove them! Otherwise, a contrasty color is sort of what is done.

We actually just built the shutters and are functional. They took hours!! Wanted to accentuate them!

Ok just wanted to show the progress. I went with BM Regents Green for the door, which I love!! Looks even better in person. I added Copley Gray trim around the door and will continue with that with the rest of the trim, basically anything that is white will be painted that. It just seems to look more "old world" or something.
