Taking socks off at friends house

When I go to a friends house, I want to take my socks off and go barefoot, but my friend is usually in socks and I feel it would be awkward if I took my socks off. My friends parents sometimes have visitors who are barefoot and they are sometimes barefoot. Is there a way that I could get my friends parents to ask me if I wanted to take my socks off.
