Thanks for the compliment on the cabinets.

The stain in that application was simply wiped on with a rag.

Our standard finishing process is to spray the stain on, let it sit a few minutes and then wipe it off. Then spray a laquer sanding sealer, let dry, sand them and then 2 clear coats.

We decided to just hand wipe the stain after finishing 1 of the doors as a sample and liking what we saw.

That Alder also has a lot more character than we normally see. If you look at the other photos of Alder cabinets in our portfolio you can see quite a difference in the woods.

The finish on those cabinets was 1 of the more "controversial" finishes I have experienced. People who saw them either loved them or hated them. There was no middle of the road. Personally I really like the look and am glad to hear you do too.

The stain used was Minwax #230 Early American.

These cabinets are simply fabulous! I'm sending this to my cabinet finisher!!

What grit of sandpaper did you use to finish sand? Would like to try to duplicate this in some custom cabinets I am having done. Thanks much!

I honestly have no idea what grit sandpaper my painter used. I built that home about 14 years ago and he no longer paints for me.
