Method of watering is a matter of preference, the result is same - watered plant :) My plants are usually attached to something, so I prefer giving them good misting every day when weather is nice.

You could probably still soak them but do not submerge/wet the flower/buds, I heard it makes the flower/buds get soggy and die, although the plant would still be ok. I'm also new to Tillies and I posted on the forum a request for care advice and got some really nice responses for general care if you want to take a look at the replies I got from the helpful people here.

I only stop soaking Tillies when they are in flower, even if the flower won't last long. If they have sent out a stalk or have buds, it may take a while for the flower to actually appear, so I soak them as normal until that flower shows up. Then I mist carefully if I feel the plant needs the water. I have a tilly I've been thinking is a "filifolia" but may be something that looks like that -- I should post pictures -- I have two such plants (maybe siblings?) and they both grew stalks which branched out and budded. I soak the plants but leave the stalks sticking out of the water. One had and still has tiny purple-blue flowers 2-3 months later, the other one... not so much. Indeed, I just check to see if either was showing signs of pupping, and the less enthusiastic plant looks bad, dried up, though I did soak it very recently. Some times things just happen for no apparent reason... maybe it will leave some seeds behind. I'll resoak it to see if that pleases it. It's sibling looks fine. I can see if my tilly seller at the growers market has something good tomorrow :)

Thanks to all for the advice and tips ! I'm glad that I've waited another day before watering cos the flower bud actually bloomed. I gave the plants a quick shower for just a few seconds before leaving them to dry - careful to avoid the flower. Hope this mimics a passing shower for the plants :)
