It looks rather stressed.......too much heat, not enough water? Do you know what cultivar it is?

I would clean out the area surrounding the base to a distance of at least a 24" radius around the trunk, carefully removing any weeds and grass without overly disturbing the root system (these trees have very shallow roots), then apply a good layer of mulch, avoiding piling up against the trunk. Water infrequently but slowly and deeply when you do - leaving the hose in place at a slow trickle for 20-30 minutes should be sufficient.

And carefully prune out any dead wood. This will show up as light sliver or gray stems/branches and with no leaves.

I agree. It looks like mine in too much sun stress.
