Sun or shade? How much room do you have, both depth and width?

Main concern is blocking view of neighbors patio, don't really care about the shade or sun. I have roughly 20' to their chain linked fence from my deck and the property goes back approximately 70'. I'm reading that Leyland Cypress or Arborvitaes might be the way to go.

Lyland Cypress grow into tall monsters and are prone to insect damage. Arborvitaes are more slow growing, but i have witnessed them double their growth speed with rabbit pellets (aka a regular supply of fertilizer). Their narrow growth habit will also save you some yard space. Also don't forget about Green Giant, which is similar to Arborvitae but they grow much taller and faster, and the roots behave themselves well. But otherwise without seeing and getting a feel for your yard it would be hard for me to recommend something.

Arborvitaes or depending how high their chain link fence is plant some trumpet vine along the fence at the bottom and that will take over like wild fire. You wont see that fence in 2-3 seasons at all nevermind being able to see through it. The trumpet vine will actually grow higher than the fence almost like a hedge. It can get wild and invasive but if maintained it looks really good

Not wise to plant something to grow on someone else's property unless you have their permission. Although it is native to southeastern U.S., trumpet vine (campsis radicans) is highly aggressive. If I found it growing on MY fence, I'd remove it immediately. A warning, too, about this plant from the Missouri Botanical Garden:

"Trumpet vine is also commonly known as cow-itch vine because some people
experience skin redness and itching after coming in contact with the
leaves."

A person has the right to plant whatever they want in their yard. If it happens to grow on the fence oh well....aggressive growth is great as long as it is kept up with and maintained. As for the itching...very small percentage of people experience that
