question on clematis wilt on Niobe

I planted a Niobe clem about five years ago in a location that now doesn't get enough sun. This clem has had clematis wilt three times, and has come back each time, but keeps getting smaller. It didn't bloom at all this year, and I thought it was dead. I just discovered that is is alive and vining it's way along the ground! If I move Niobe to a better location, is it likely that the "wilt" will follow? Would I just be spreading "wilt" to other locations? thanks in advance for any thoughts.
