Hi Gary, I wonder how difficult they are to cultivate and if it even possible to obtain them. Range is Europe into parts of Asia

Probably like the Australian Terrestrials where only a few are rated as easy and the rest are difficult or impossible to grow.

Happen to see a pic of some on facebook and was very impressed with the flower Unfamiliar with the genus and find they are temperate,terrestrial though they certainly have quite a range Suspect I might be able to grow them IF they don't require a cool/cold rest period ?? I think I remember seeing some at the WOC several years ago. What an incredibly flower??

Hi Garylia,

Most Ophrys and Orchis species have a rest period (dormancy) in the summer, they don't like hot dry weather and there is to much concurrency from other plants. most are pretty hardy special the ones growing more to the north but even in the Mediterranean Sea area are they sometimes covered with snow higher up in the hills. I have no idea how difficult the Ophrys bombyliflora is in culture

Looking around the net i find there at least a dozen species ranging from Iran to Portugal a couple seem to be endemic to islands .

I live in south florida so cool /cold rest periods are almost impossible so I stick to warm tropicals. Given the range I must have a somewhat similar climate unless they are montain dwellers lol

Temperate orchids are as scarce as hens teeth around here lol Trying to determine which would be the best choice and searching the net.

Would think your area would be better . Can you grow Bletilla there?? For me they tend to fade away over time and fail to flower .need a distinct change of seson!!! If you find a source for Ophrys would you share ??
