Husband wears his pants tucked in motorcycle boots because the ants never go all the way up enough to get him too bad. He learned that from mowing a fire ant nest.

Have you considered doing away with the ants? That was how I solved my problem with ants up my legs while gardening. I wasn't going to try to do stuff in my fire boots.

Yeah, I'm planning on poisoning them, but I haven't gotten to that yet.

Are they kinda red-black and bite horribly? Boil out of the ground when they get angry? If so, you've got our native fire ants and the only thing that will help you is buying a jug of Amdro for fire ants and following the directions on the jug.

I have about 4 different looking ones. Some big some tiny. Some red some black.

If they aren't biting, I'd leave them alone. We have the usual array of ants here, but none that bite. Argentine ants are here in enormous numbers and are always around in the garden where I'm working. Completely harmless. Have heard of gardens overrun by pests after ant treatment, something else to consider.

I know they can bite, but I've been proactive enough that they haven't bit me. We have a large amount of spiders (shudder) so they should take care of most of the pests that ants deal with. It's also only a small portion of my yard that will be poisoned.
