Island range conundrum

We are remodeling our kitchen and considering an island range.... I have heard a lot about cooking splatter, poor down draft performance, lost prep space, and other issues. It's the best fit for our new design due to space restrictions and layout. We would appreciate any feedback!

Venting is to me the biggest problem as I find downdrafts useless so if at all possible when I design kitchens I try to place the range or cooktop on an outside wall in a 2 storey house in a one story the vent can run through the ceiling so no problem. The only thing to think about is the distance from stove top to people sitting at the island especially kids as for lost prep space that really depends on the size of the island.
