Really? Wow, I would have thought the droppings are too big for hormworms or caterpillars. I'm going to take another look. Thanks for the suggestion!

Update: Thank you rgreen48! It took a lot of looking, but I did spot a green catepillar. Not sure if it was a hornworm, it was smaller than I think they are (or maybe it was a baby) but either way, I googled catepillar and hornworm droppings, and they are definitely what I have!

I'm off to purchase some BT. In a funny way, I'm glad this is bugs and not mice, chipmunks, etc. because maybe my tomato 'coop' is working to keep them out after all!

I brought a pepper plant indoors for the winter and placed it on a folding snack table at the south side patio doors. The next morning there were mouse droppings on the floor right by the table. I put up a few snap traps with peanut butter on the floor that evening.

That second morning, the traps were undisturbed (NO mouse can resist peanut butter. None!) but the little black pellets were on the table this time. Turns out there was a four or five inch perfectly matching green tomato horn-worm on the plant. They can out-scat a rodent!

Never would have guessed...

Yep, I was very surprised at the amount of hornworm or catepillar scat! Yuck. But happy to at least know what it is!
