You might want to look up Winter Sowing as well. It's a great method for starting seeds that need chilling.

White pine and Chinese Lace Bark pine were easy from seed - both germinated well after a 4week stratification in the fridge. I will be trying stone pines next - pinus pinea.

The Forestry Commission has a lot of useful material on growing trees from seeds. Where will you source your seed? Provenance is important as freshness and good storage is essential to ensure the viability of seeds - some seed sellers must either store their seeds badly or keep them for too long because the germination rates are rarely as good as seed you can swap, save yourself or buy from a good source (and it can be hit and miss).
