Well, it is too hot over here in my county to cure them in full sun right now and since you're not too far from me, I assume it is too hot there. It was 101 degrees here today so I wouldn't attempt to cure winter squash in temperatures that high in full sun. I don't like to cure them outdoors in the sun when temperatures are above the mid-80s. They can sunscald and then rot will be likely to set in wherever they sunburned.

Do you have room to cure them indoors? That would work well. Or, can you cure them in any shade anywhere? On a table under a tree? In a shed or garage or barn?

If they still are on the vines and have ample foliage to shield them from direct sun, I'd leave them on the plants as long as possible. Maybe the heat down here will break in another week or two. Or, maybe it won't. I often just leave them on the vines for weeks and weeks until I am ready to cure them, and it works out well as long as we aren't cold and wet.

Yeah, I will cure the early ones indoors. I am going to try not to pick any of them early, but there are a few that are growing in the neighbours yard and I needed to pick them. The SVBs have also taken out quite a few leaves too, so some of the squash are pretty sun exposed.
