Do you really use your Double Sink in Master?

We are looking at building a new house. My husband wants a double sink and I would rather have one sink with extra counter space. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I think it depends on the size of the bathroom and how you plan to use it. If you have the room for 2 sinks and enough space around them for both of you to do what you need to, then go for it! It's a great luxury.

On the other hand, if having 2 sinks means that you are tight for counterspace, then it makes little sense to cram it in.

Also, are you both going to be using the bathroom at the same time, fighting over the sink? Then try and fit the two in.

I love having my own vanity, sink and medicine cabinet, but my master bath is very large and it all fits with room to spare.

We're in the exact same pickle - have to redo bath and trying to decide on where to allocate each inch.
Tub vs grand shower + 60" vanity vs 48" vanity plus linen tower + 2 windows facing the street.
I could but don't want to make the footprint of the bathroom too large otherwise the master bedroom won't be very masterly!

You definitely need two sinks in the master. You may not personally use it but it is huge for resale.

Yes!! I think it's my favorite feature. Hope this isn't too much info but.. my spouse is very messy (shaving, etc). I prefer my own space. I want to replace the vanity with one with drawers as we share a medicine cabinet on the side wall and it's very crammed right now.

Yes, we use them almost every day. He can shave while I'm drying my hair or brushing teeth. No one has to carry their dryer/shaving gear etc down the hall to the 2nd bath.

OMIGOD, YESSSSS! Separate sinks and a separate toilet area WITH A DOOR were absolute musts when we planned our current home. It is great. In every other house we've lived in together (five of them) we had to share a sink. If you have the room for it, you'll be glad you did. In a year you'll wonder how you ever shared a sink before. We used two 24" sink bases with a full 36" drawer base in the middle. I have hardly anything on my counters because I can stash most things in a drawer. Handy, but out of sight. Good luck!

After 16 years in this house, we just renovated our master ensure from a single sink with a little extra counter space to an Ikea Godmorgan double sink wall suspended four drawer vanity. Love it, love it, love it! In a tiny 5' x 8' we didn't think two of us would ever get ready in there at the same time - but we do! Do it - it's good for resale

So funny. Was just asking a client yesterday about this and they voted for double sink - not because the couple necessarily overlaps, but because they like to keep the girly and masculine items sorted.

I personally don't like "stuff" on a counter. Prefer it kept uncluttered so I can spray, wipe and viola... it is clean without having to move a lot of things. I also don't like sharing a sink with hubby. I keep my "stuff" (makeup, lotions, sprays, brushes, etc...) in a basket that I can easily lift in and out of the lower cabinet... and enjoy having my own sink in a clean and uncluttered space.

Definitely go with two sinks, if not two separate vanities. No worries about fighting for mirror time. Also agree that if you have room to put commode behind a door in separate area, you should go for that, too. We are shopping for a new house and I have quickly eliminated the homes that had only a single sink in the master bath.

Depending on the size of the house, double sinks should be integrated into the plan especially for new construction, even if it means a smaller bedroom or closet.

Heck yes! It is close to a marriage saver! Go one thing better have separate water closet rooms.

My husband and I love our double sinks so much that we even look for double vanity sinks in hotels when planning working trips!
