I think it's time to give Chamblees a call.

When you say "it throws long runners", how long are they? I am wondering if that plant may be the climbing version of Rainbow's End. Climbers take way, way, longer to grow big enough to bloom, and throwing canes sideways is one of the things they are famous for doing in their first year of growth. If it puts out tall climbing canes next Spring (or it may take longer), then you will know for sure.

After talking to Chamblee's and sending a photo they concluded I do indeed have the climber. They have never offered the climber for sale so aren't quite sure what happened. They did send me a replacement bush and it is already growing and putting on flowers. Since I didn't have anywhere to plant a climber I put it in a 22" pot with a trellis for support. In 4 short weeks it has more than quadrupled in size and this week started putting on blooms. I'll have to find a spot of ground for it in the spring.

They do sell the Climbing version. I just bought it.

Glad you got it! They must have built up their stock. Mine grew very fast last fall and has already grown bigger in the last three weeks. I'm going to have to start tying up the canes because some of them are 3 ft long. It put on about 8 blooms last fall and each one was different. I'm anxious to see what it does this spring.

My climbing rainbows end bloomed like crazy the first month I got it as a band from heirloom roses.

I;ve grown Harm Seville's Rainbow's End for years. I still like it inspite of the fact I have 125 other minis, plus 130 Minifloras!!

I have my regular 'Rainbow's End this year in a container. First bloom flush is always the nicest. Thought I'd avoid it getting black spot when put into a container, but I was mistaken! ☹️
