k2, I got the most basic ones possible, with the dials. I think the washer is model # AWN432SP113TWO4 and the dryer is ADE3SRG3173TWO1.

I own 3 of them and I do not have an extended warranty on them. The washers already carry a warranty. Also these washers are commercial grade so they are built very well. They are also belt driven. They will not cost nearly the expense as the digital face on washers etc. my washers are not digital they are the old fashion turn the knob . If the store you are purchasing from charge extended warranty plans please know exactly what it covers and what speed queen covers on warranty. The place I purchased from did not sell any extended warranty on these washers . If it were an HE machine the fancy ones or anything digital I would think about it then. If a panel goes out even one button the entire panel has to be replaced which could cost up to 500.00 . I have a new LG washer - I say new because I have used it about 10 times and the panel went out on it. It was still under the manufacturer warranty ,but if not yes my $$$ would be spent yet again . I'm not happy with the performance of the fancy HE washers and therefore I bought speed queens. so HAPPY !!! Speed queen is not fancy but it sure cleans my clothes. I do want to say that I think they have new digital washers not really by their choice in making them , but since the government has control of the water level in washers , they went ahead and made these new ones because of the look people wanted and pretty much the washers will soon be all digital - thanks to the government so we as customers cannot mess with the water levels in them . a lot of times when you add clothes to an HE machine once it is in the process of washing , it throws the sensor off in the machine and the washer goes off balance. . I think I'll stick with the old fashion speed queen as long as they keep making them that way for now. How long , who knows !

Would you be able to wash two queen sheet sets at the same time in your Speed Queen? How many minutes would it take? I am sold on Speed Queen but remain worried about drum capacity (3.3 cu. ft.) and length of cycle. Also, are clothes nearly dry coming out of washer? Makes a big difference in drying time. Thank you. Hey sconner. I saw your qq...I have a SQ set and yes, two sets of Q size sheets, with pillow cases fit in one load. I have the top-loading basic (mechanical knob) washer; I think I posted the model # above a while back. The dryer is electric, and it dries in the same time it takes to run a wash load. It will dry all the way, or you can set it to whatever level of dry/how ever long you want. Washer has a central agitator, but that doesn't get in the way. The cycles run less than 30 minutes. I love love love that they are basic, quality, heavy duty machines. Things come out clean, fresh and they are easy enough for kids to use! Good luck. :)

And no I don't think we got the extended warranties. We've had ours for a year now, and no problems at all with them. They are old-school quality. :)

Thanks so much. Are they reasonably quiet? I plan to buy two pairs to keep up with all the bedding and towels at my (unofficial) B & B, so a loud laundry room is a potential hazard if I am not careful. soconner

They are quieter than my Kenmore set! I think they have much more heavy-duty housing, and are adequately insulated for sound. They aren't as quiet as the front loaders I've had, but they aren't obnoxious at all. You'd be able to hear them, but it wouldn't be anything that would be disturbing to guests. Ours are in a laundry area in our guest house, and are located below one of the bedrooms. Can't hear them running at all in the room above them. I can hear them running when I'm on the same floor as the laundry. My Kenmore set at home is so loud, I can't be on the phone while I'm in the laundry area...the Speed Queens are nowhere near that obnoxious!

If you run a BnB, I would def. consider these machines. Reliable, and hard working, without fuss. They work well and are well made.

haha I just saw it is an "unofficial" B'n'B. That is how I feel (lake house--guests, bath towels, beach towels, sheets, blankets...all. the. time!) The SQ's were exactly for that. Plus, they are so easy to operate, a kid can do it. No excuses...I expect my guests to do their own laundry now. LOL And, they have been! :)

sconner, I agree with rred on everything she said. You can wash two sheet sets, no problem. Right now I did just that. I wouldn't say they're quiet, exactly, but they don't seem to be any noisier than other laundry machines. Besides, better to have laundry machines that actually clean your clothes than machines that are whisper quiet but don't work well.

I think an extended warranty would be a waste of money.

Call S Q. Also before you purchase on what you will be using them for with the B&B. They may suggest the best washer. I also think they make a true commercial washer for your needs. Maybe a little larger. They may recommend also the front loader . I think they hold more clothes if I remember correctly. But they are digital on the front loaders. Good luck !

And if you want to see one in action, a fairly new laundromat would be a good place to check it out. You can then hear the noise level for yourself, and see it working. :)

The model I bought, and I believe of all their models, are the same ones used in laundromats, dorms, apt.s and all come with an optional coin/card operating device.

The Laundromat machines are completely different in size and how they are made. I have already talked to speed queen about them . They are heavy duty commercial made . They will not sell those to the public . ..........I would post another thread to see if anyone has the front loaders / model # and get their feedback - just on the front loaders . I would be interested in that also to see what they say about them Let is know if you do . Thxs

SQ does sell washing machines and dryers to general public also. Those machines are made specifically for the consumers. That is what my local appliance guy told me. Most likely I am going to buy SQ washer and dryer. The only negative point seems to be that they are smaller in size as compared to modern TL and FL washers.

SQ sells a commercial quality machine to the public.- residential They are not in big box stores . Option : If you want a true commercial grade washer / dryer for a business as the B&B etc. SQ has a different division for you to talk to # 800-590-8872. SQ gave me this number. Or go to SpeedQueencommercial .com they said. They make different ones for business commercial grade .Call Speed Queen to talk to them more about your needs. They are made different for business I think this will help you in what you are looking for and your needs for the B&B. Or for any business For residential. The SQ #. Is 920-748-3121. They can help with questions or find dealer that will sell the washer and dryers. SQ said that Residential front loaders : - come with with the knobs or digital The front loaders maybe HE machines so you would have to ask on that. Top loaders are not. Business commercial grades you will need to ask SQ. HE give less water because you can only use HE soap in them. Please let us know what you end up doing. For a business , I would not buy a residential commercial machine if you are doing heavy duty laundry and a lot of it . Hope this helps everyone !

I'm about to buy a basic Amana set. About $1200 for the set. Will purchase at an appliance store because they service what they sell, not that I'm expecting to have to service it. Choosing very basic because I don't need all the gadgets to tell me how to do my laundry and they are the right size for moving them in the future to a new laundry area. I will be getting a gas dryer. They dry clothes quicker!

Are those Amana sets as "basic" as they used to be? They don't have gadgets and all the smart stuff?

Mydogmiddy, please do your research on this. Is this an HE machine ? How full of water does the tub get. How fast do they wash the clothes ? how good do the clothes come out I have done so much research on washers I'm not sure why you would not by a speed queen after ready reviews . And getting feedback that people that own them would not get any other machine. Remember we are here to help. If I could make money from selling them trust me I wish I could. Because I know, when people have used them there is no doubt they would not say THANK YOU ! You really helped me make the right decision . This is a true honest opinion on how much I think these are the best washers out there. They have been in business for years . and I would do everything I can to help someone make the right choice on a washer . Since I pretty much have seen and used a lot of machines. Trying them at clients homes . Honestly , I wish I could talk you out of other machines if you are just wanting a basic machine without all the bells and whistles Just a simple machine that some people have said they have had the same machine for 30 years . I did a lot of research and googled tons of info and on Houzz . If price is the factor speed queen will be more but you pay for what you get! I really hope you will do some more research on your purchase and I hope my post will help you and others having a hard time on purchasing something reliable and it washes clothes like they did until they came out with all these fancy HE low water machines . this is just my opinion ,but I'm sure others that own them feel exactly the same. Some machines look like the old fashion machines , but they are not the same. Read the manual on your purchase also even if it says it is a regular machine and you can turn a knob and it says also a HE machine. This means you will get low water and can only use HE soap. I know , I already made this mistake when I purchased a GE. And sent it back. This is before I knew about speed queens. I have gone thru 6 washers and now own a few speed queens.

I agree with tammra, mydogmiddy. You can see from when I started this dilemma that I was not sure what machines I wanted, and now I'm solidly sold on the SQ. I hear you on buying from a store that will provide service. There's no point in buying machines that you know will require it, though, or not wash your clothes well even when they do work.

I just checked reviews on Amana. The revelation is looking at the bad ones. Yes, the machine is HE. And no, it does not clean clothes well. It has the same problems as all the other HE machines out there, and the ONLY machine that still exists that isn't HE is Speed Queen.

My washer/dryer set wasn't all that expensive. It was about $1500.

Go to the SQ website and look up local dealers. You might be able to find one near you. You'll have to order the machines and wait a few weeks, but it will be worth it.

Another voice to chime in for Speed Queens! They are absolute TANKS! We've had ours for two years now, and we've outlasted two sets of Samsung all-singing, all-dancing, blingtastic, bluetooth connected, spaceboxes our friends bought around the same time.

Samsung is a no go Sears just bought me a new Kenmore after one year of use. Only three people in this house.

Amana is HE but it has a bulky cycle which allows tub to fill more. Buying these because will only use 6 months out of the year. Condo in FLA has a Maytag front loader which is a piece of crap. Also have a Maytag dryer in FLA which I wouldn't give you 2 cents for. Always had a Maytags. The one I left at my old house broke down after 2 yrs and I spent about $275 to have it fixed. Maytag is now owned by Whirlpool I will not buy a Kenmore which is also Whirlpool. I had too many students whose parents worked at the plant where they are manufactured. Hopefully this Amana will do the trick. All it has to do is wash clothes without me having a masters degree in how to operate a washing machine! Its had very good reviews and very bad bad reviews but it seems more good than bad. Another reason I choose Amana is because it's the right size to put in a closet upstairs when we get around to redesigning that closet into a laundry area. Speed Queens sound like a very good product. If I had a family and did mounds of laudry I would probably invest in one. Hope I'm not disappointed with my decision.

Hey mydog, if the Amana is the best for you in every other respect, go for it, but don't pass up the SQ because you would only use them 6 months a year or don't have a lot of laundry. Those both sound like excuses to go for a product that likely isn't as good and is only slightly cheaper.

Honestly mydogmindy or anyone trying to buy a washer , if you do more research you still would not invest into the Amana . It is still an HE. the HE machine are sensored to use x amt of water per weight of clothes. Even though there is a bulky cycle that gives more water you need to make sure you have a bulky load , but you still are not going to get much water with those loads and the loads take for ever to wash . All they do is spin around and around . For what , I still have not figured that out yet on the HE machines . Never add water into an HE machine , they go off balance. I have tried it all ! I'm not sure why anyone would purchase any other machine when you read the reviews of people that had experienced all the problems on all these fancy HE machines. read about all the problems they have and these machines are going to get worse and just cheap in the mechanical parts . There is no telling how long speed queen will be able to keep making the product the way they do now. The government has already made them comply to things. Which already people that want to purchase another speed queen know it is different from what they have already had . I would a least invest in a good machine so you will have it for years to come and take it with you where ever you move. You will never give up the SQ . My guess is if you purchase the one for Florida you will end up bringing it back to the home you use and wash clothes more . I can only say , I promise I would never take the time in trying to help people make the right decision if I did not go thru so many issues on these HE machines ...... I sure hope this changes your mind on your purchase. SQ Houzzers will totally agree , I'm sure of it. If you do purchase anything else for your needs , I truly do hope you are happier with it than others. You did say the Amana had bad reviews ! That seems like a red flag to me. You will find over 400 negative reviews on HE machines . Look and see how many there are on SQ . I think I'll stick with the SQ. you pay for what you get, I'm a tru believer in that. I truly hope this thread helps people in making the right decision for them. I wish I was able to at the time I started looking into washers. Best of Luck to all. Man! I was all set on a samsung until I saw this thread....Now I'm leaning towards speed queen. They are more expensive than I'd like to spend, but with a family of 5 I need efficiency!

If you get the basic top loader with dials (which is the model to get, in my opinion) it really isn't all that much more expensive than the cheapest Samsung.

It's worth it anyway.

Ths thread has also sent me leaning from Samsung to Speed Queen. I spent 30 minutes on the phone today with a sharp and candid Speed Queen representative. Here's what I learned.

Speed Queen can still make machines that allow you to control water level; that will change in 2018, when government regulations will take that power away. The distinguishing characteristic that sets Seed Queen apart: Warranty, which I explain in next graph.

Speed Queen makes three levels of top-load washers, which is what they are known for. All models are the same size 3.3 cu. ft. and have the same motor, drum, etc. All models offer an Eco-efficient cycle for those who want to conserve water, but users don't have to select that cycle if they choose to use more water. The basic model (32) with dials has only addiitional two cycles: regular and delicate. Warranty on basic model is three years.

The mid-model (82) has electronic controls and adds a permanent press cycle.

The top model also has electronic controls (92) and adds more cycles, including a short cycle, bulky cycle, whites cycle and a delay-time cycle.

Time for regular cycle is 30 minutes; short wash is 25 minutes. The electronic models offer a five-year warranty.

All three models spin clothes fast, which has the advantage of short dry times. The downside: spin isn't the quietest on the market, if that's a concern.

The other possible downside: Capacity of 3.3 cu. ft. is not as large as many HE models offered by other manufacturers. SQ will wash a queen size comforter, but not a King...if you care. However, the 3.3 cu. ft. size allows you to fill drum with water, thus minimizing the difference between its smaller drum size and the true washing capacity of a 4.5 HE tub.

The SQ lady did not have pricing information; you have to check that with your local appliance store. You won't find SQ in any big box store, and you won't find it on sale. SQ's sell on the strength of their warranty and customer satisfaction. SQ lady did say that the price jumps between models are not tremendously large, and it may be worth considering the difference in warranties between the base model and the two electronic models.

If anyone wants the scoop on dryers, let me know. Thanks to the person on this string who provided the SQ phone number...today's education was well worth the call.

Had a Bosch W&D for 9 years. Washer on last leg; dryer door just nearly fell off when top hinge broke. I figured out a brilliantly creative solution: put a cardboard box same height as door bottom for support! Worked maybe 10 times, then just died mid-cycle. A decent lifespan! Bosch dishwasher lasted 3 years.

Good to hear about Speed Queen. At 74, W&D both in bsmt., family wants me to put them on main floor; not easy in 1956 limestone structure! (falling down stairs) I'm ready for smaller house; spouse says he wants to die here..

I realize this is an older post. The LG set we just bought is the same one shown in the OP's photo. So far, so good!

If only Maytag was what it used to be.

Has anyone had experience with the new LG Sidekick? It is the small 1.1 cu. ft for washing delicates and active wear. It is 'contained' in the pedestal that the washer can be elevated on. Apparently you can run a regular load in the washer above and a small 'delicate' load below at the same time.

After extensive research, I settled on one pair of Speed Queens for normal laundry and one large capacity top loader set of Samsungs for large loads of bedding and towels. Speed,Queens are great. Samsung have two drawbacks:

1. Sensor drying does not get your laundry dry. Even if you adjust dry setting to dryest possibility, clothes still have to be re-dried.

2. Laundry tub is so deep that a 5'3" person cannot reach clothes on bottom without tongs!

Susan, my new LG washer is also quite deep. I noticed it was listed as a con on several reviews prior to buying it. I'm tall so no need for the tongs.

Just got a top load Speed Queen today! Got rid of the broken LG frontload. I'm washing everything in sight and really enjoying clothes smelling clean and not moldy. I investigated thoroughly and SQ is the only one made with quality parts. The repair man told me he bought SQ last year and loved it. Big box stores and appliance manufacturers seem to be happy with plastic parts and inferior quality.....It keeps you in their stores!

To the person who asked about the extended service plan, no, I didn't do it.

They had the calculator of how long the Speed Queen should last with my usage and it was already 20-something years.

It isn't flashy, but I trust "old school" better than anything out there and didn't need a service plan with the 30 year old washer we replaced.

Here's a weird but very nice thing: Since getting the Speed Queens no socks have disappeared. I used to have lonely socks all the time but for over a year with my SQ's there have been no sock runaways.

My Bosch is still working fine after 10 years,but once that goes I'll get a SQ

Hopefully by that time the design will still be the same. They've managed to avoid the water restriction stuff by keeping the designation more commercial but there are fears they'll have to change.

Then I should claim that my washing machine no longer works well and get one now:) I hope they mange to keep it this way
