Replanting

We have a few shrubs we want to replant. They have taken over! Not sure of names; one is evergreen ornamental ( blue spruce like needles) one is a lilac bush and the other is a dark and light green evergreen standing about 8 ft tall. Sorry. Anyway, should we just dig around the root and replant in the fall? Any special precautions we should take? Hope the pictures help! Thanks.

You can rejuvenate the lilac by cutting it back. The sane way to do this is to cut off, to the base, 1/3 of the branches each year. Then keep pruning it to the shape that you need. The pruning should not be the outside branches, but deep within the bush.

Thank you Yvonne. The problem with the lilac is its surrounded by big shrubs and it's in sandy soil.( was already planted at the beach house when I bought it) It's still very small, so I'm thinking the soil and the crowding are keeping it from growing. Do they survive replanting? I'd like to put it out in the open in great soil.
