Lessons Learnt This Year

The pumpkin and squash year is not over yet. It has been a better year than last year's. I harvest several full sized kabocha and other Asian winter squash and I'm happy.

What I learnt this year is that, pumpkin or squash does like rich soil. I planted them in average farm soil and the results have been just average. It is frustrating sometimes.

I did not get SVB. But the vines still wilted during the day, almost everyday in the hot summer. The soil is dry. I watered the roots of the plants twice a week, but the plants still struggle. I believe soil is the problem.

I get about two kabocha each vine. The 2nd one is smaller. With rich soil, I believe they can produce 3 each vine.
