Strangely, every banana that I've tried to treat as a houseplant has rotted, probably from overwatering. Now I only protect by outdoor Basjoo and bring this monster inside.

It's an unknown variety I got at a farmer's market. It just pushed out a bud this week so hopefully I'll be able to identify it.

I'd have to agree with you about over watering,mine seemed to go dorment,so I only gave it a little water once in a while. Can I ask why you didnt cut down the tall stem that appears dead?

I had no idea the potato vine would survive inside, I've always taken the potato's and cooked them up, this year I will try to keep it intact over the winter, Thanks masokealzafa, your nana & plants all look great !!

The tall stem is still alive. I just had to lop off all the leaves to get it inside. It's actually flowering right now.

Christine have you tried fig trees they also do well in the home I also see I think a lemon tree with your small banana plant. Is that correct ? I have a lemon tree too it is 15 feet tall and has fruit in it :) can't wait to see that pic of the banana flower I like Pi !

masokealzafa, No I have never tried a fig, I'll look for one in the spring, Thanks for the suggestion. I dont have a lemon tree,but I do have a grapefruit that I started as a bet with a friend, told her if I tossed the pits into soil they would grow and they did LOL. If your referreing to the plant to the right of the nana thats a avocado.

Oh yes avocado thought it a skinny citrus of some sort. Grapefruit will turn in a tree but unfortunately it is the citrus that takes longest to mature before it fruits. But the tree is amazing ! I also started the lemon by seed from fruit of the store it is fun !

mikeerno, I have never had a problem with mites, you sound like you have great plans for your plants, Dont you worry about the amount of snow you get? Did I hear correctly that Boston has already stock piled over 12k ton of salt?

Hey Mike nice to meet you again. I do have mites in winter but a simple strong spray with water and a bit of mild soap usually keeps them under controlled for me. I wipe mine clean. Wow you have a lot of plants lol here is a pic of my daughter standing under the banana I have now brought my plants and trees in for the winter :)

My goodness..Masokealzafa...Don't blink your eyes too long or either your daughter will over tower that Banana tree soon or thet Banana tree will push your roof off..lol The race is on)YOu have such a beautiful set up and such tall windows..My dream house for sure! Christine, yes your right..I pray to the lord that we get a mild winter due to the El-nino and that California freezes for a change.lol My friend in Northern Calif. never got a winter last year and did not see a frost until January, when he is suppose to get them by October! He was hot all year while we FRoze all winter..Arg..So far the tables have been reversed..I have never had my Banana Trees in the groiund so late into September..They are loving it)

Wow I wish I could have it in the ground but it can get to -40 Celsius here lol a bit cold ! It is a lemon tree it has flowered for the first time this summer still waiting on lemons to mature:) yes this house we built was dreamt up when we lived in our mobile we suffered for this house but worth every bit of it. We had a dream so we settled for a mobile without power for 2 years on our lot. It took us 5 years to realize our dream lol people called us crazy and hermits hill billies lol but now as they see my home they say I was smart lol I do miss my plants when they are outside but I spend my days on my deck that has 30 flower pots lol I am the crazy flower lady. I sure wish I could see the nana flower!!!

I'm in northeast Georgia, we do occasionally get snow, but it rarely hangs around for more than a couple of days.
