Can lights can be used but they must be "wet" or "shower-location" rated. "Damp-location" rated lights in these locations are unsafe and will not meet safety code requirements

I've done wet rated lights in a shower. Nice!

Thanks. Scary situation; I don't know if they are wet rated, they were in the house when I bought it...17 years ago.

Then replace them. It's an easy redo.

I have low voltage / damp location cans in the bath / shower.

The other thing to remember is that code is valid for a specific location and specific reasons. Where I live PEX is against code. Doesn't mean that it is dangerous to use in other locations.

Over the years I have had 3 electricians adjusting these can lights for various reasons. I would be ticked if they are against code and none of the 3 mentioned it.

I have can lights above my shower, and I assume they're wet-rated.

Seriously, though, as long as I don't touch them while I'm showering, they couldn't hurt me anyway, could they? Or am I being stupid? It happens, you know.

I have them in two of my showers, too. I have no idea if they are wet-rated, but now I'm curious. Is there a way to find out? Should they be stamped inside or something?

Ill tellUwhat,

a standard can can benefit from a wet area rated "Trim Kit"

Kats, where do you live and what's the rational behind not allowing PEX ?

Its approved by national building codes.

My wife, a journeyman electrician, is sitting next to me. I just asked her about wet can lights and she said "You've just got to buy the right trim kit."

Ill tell U what, journeyWoman has a nice ring to it, try that out and then she may sit a little "closer" to you and it may be electrifying.. wink wink nudge nudge ....
