Windowsill Stone (Karin?)

last modified: 11 years ago

Some time ago (last winter?,) I posted here about the stone that was used for my old windowsill. Karin identified it for me, I think it is sandstone, but I don't remember for sure, and a search on GW didn't turn up that thread for me. I'd very much like to re-purpose the stone (and re-identify it.)

The contractors were able to save the slab, it is 15" x 32." I have two ideas for possible uses. The first is to make it the top slab on my top step of my new back steps - the "body" of the steps will most likely be brick. For that use, I want to know: a) will it be slippery when wet? and, b) will it be durable as I will be stepping on it many, many times a day (in and out, in and out?)

The second possible use is for my projected possible future fountain. Not sure how I'd use it for the fountain: perhaps as the part that the water runs over before it falls down, or some other fountain surface. I bet it's extra pretty when wet.

I'm torn - steps will be going in very soon, and the dimensions seem right, and are very close to the dimensions of the old top step. The active side of the door is 33.5." If it's use-able for the steps, I can find immediate use for it and it won't be another piece of *crap* that I'm storing because I might -someday- use it for some project when I get around to it.

On the other hand...

What say you?
