You have room for a nice upholstered bench here. You would want the finished height to be 20" which is probably the height of your dining chair seat. The bench could be a minimum of 15" deep but if you can make it deeper you'll have room for some cushions to be placed there. This is something that you'd have made by a custom upholstery company, and they can help you further with specific dimensions and suitable fabrics.

I love the idea of cushions! Maybe 4" to make up for the rest of the wall space? I really don't want to remove the window so I was thinking of removing the blinds and installing Roman shades, adding the seat cushion and pillow for the back.

So now another question would be color...We're opening up our kitchen and this dining room would be adjacent to the kitchen. The kitchen will have a crème faux wood porcelain tile, espresso cabinets with an off white quartz countertop. As you can see we have finished hard wood floors and I would want a dark colored wood farm style dining table (Big Sur by Crate & Barrel is the style we like). I think that would be too much wood so close to each other. To break that up I was thinking of installing an off white bench, similar to the photo.
