I am wondering about the tiger fig as well. How does it handle fig mosaic virus? The kadota fig I got from the local nursery has FMV and so I would guess that most of the figs in the area must have it.

I was at quail gardens in san diego at the beginning of august and their tiger fig was just starting to get ripe. And they are coastal so it probably doesn't get too hot there. They probably have an earlier spring than you do, though.

Most fig trees have FMV. If you are in a climate where fig trees thrive then it's no big deal, but if you are pushing the zone envelope, I'd back off.

One fig
forum member who lives in the North-East posted somewhere that even though he
thinks the striped fig is beautiful and has an excellent flavor, it ripens too
late for the north-east and doesn’t develop a good flavor once the weather is
cool. There are a number of other figs in the Adriatic Berry fig flavor category
that are green to yellow without the pretty stripes. They ripen earlier and have
a similar or better sweet raspberry jam flavor. Some people have mentioned they
like Adriatic JH, Battaglia Green/ Verte, Conadria, and
Stella.

Agreed that the Tiger fig only does well with long hot summer areas, e.g. Southern and Central California. I live in So. Cal, and mine ripen in September most years, occasionally in August, when we are experiencing an unusually hot season. Even then, they're not at their best unless the temps hit the mid to high 90s for an extended time, right before ripening. I have a hunch they wouldn't do well in the North East.
